February 10, 2017
Mosaic Books Background
Mosaic Books is an independent bookstore located in Okanagan Valley, British Columbia. At 8,000-plus square feet with over 30,000 new and bargain-priced titles, the retailer is the largest in the area. In addition to their physical store, they also list their complete inventory for sale online. They have carried bargain books for 18 years.
With 13% of their total book inventory being comprised of bargain-priced books, Mosaic Books requires assistance keeping their selection stocked with quality bargain titles in a variety of genres.
Solution
In 1997 Book Depot began creating bargain book assortments for Mosaic Books. More recently we have partnered with them to provide them with an inventory feed they can order through that is compatible with their proprietary Book Manager software.
Book Depot also consolidates shipments for Mosaic Books, an economical shipping option that allows them to place daily orders to ensure they don’t miss any titles in our inventory updates. Book Depot ships to Mosaic Books on average three times a month for a constant supply of product.
Results
Book Depot’s low prices translate into a great average margin of 65% for Mosaic Books. Bargain books account for 28% of their overall profit and 18% of their sales. They have noted that their bargain book inventory has increased their overall sales “without cannibalizing existing business.”
